MY SON GABRIEL
Let me tell you about Gabriel, my 22 year-old young adult son who is a blessing to me. Thank God for giving me such an obedient son, in his growing up years he always accompanied our old pastor to do visitations, our pastor loves Gabriel like he is his own son
I remember when he was only 4 years old, a student in our church school, I would often took him with me to downtown L.A. to giveaway sandwiches to the homeless there. I wanted him to have a compassionate heart towards the homeless people, and oftentimes he would remind me: “Mama, time to make hotdog sandwiches.”
Growing up in this kind of circumstance, without much teaching, he already learned by watching and observing. Every time Gabriel went to school I would prepare lunch box with sandwich for him to bring to school. But every time he would ask me to prepare 2 sandwiches instead of 1, I did not understand the reason why, was it because one sandwich was not sufficient for him?
Then one day the pastor and principle of the school called me up and asked me to go to church. I thought was it because Gabriel did something wrong? I was thinking if Gabriel gets home I would discipline him. However when I came into the principle’s office, he kept on praising me saying: “How did you teach your son to be so good!”
I smiled and said: “I thought you are going to scold me” He said: “Do you know that your son always gave his own lunch to the homeless out there, he did not even have lunch to eat!” When I heard that, my tears started to roll down my cheeks, so that was the reason why Gabriel always asked me to do one more sandwich to give to the homeless outside the church, my heart was greatly moved.
My son learned to fast and giveaway his lunch for another showed his love and compassion, usually children of his age would not be able to do that. Praise God for giving Gabriel a loving heart in the circumstance that He put us in.
And not only that, but he also led some children to go to downtown to give the homeless people hotdogs and sandwiches. I always gave him a plastic bag with many hotdogs, and taught him to say God bless you as he gave out the food.
